“This project will keep the brain active longer”

A senior’s brain can train itself, but it needs help. Researchers from Bydgoszcz from the Kazimierz Wielki University – in the Neuroplay consortium – are working on a research project in which controlling the game by means of brain waves will allow the brain to stay fit for longer.

Neuroplay is an acronym for a research project financed under a NCBiR grant and carried out as part of a consortium. The project concerns neurofeedback (EEG biofeedback). The device is intended for the elderly, serves as neurostimulation and resembles a game. That is why the name also includes the word “play” – informs Gazeta Wyborcza.

As explained by Dr. Ludmiła Zając-Lamparska from the Faculty of Psychology of the Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz, who leads the team of psychologists in this project, EEG biofeedback is simply a kind of biological feedback loop. The point is that the person gets feedback on their physiological state.

Neurofeedback training is based on the fact that the trainee, based on the received feedback, can affect his physiological state. The learning mechanism through instrumental conditioning is used for this.
